ENTERPRISE SAN ANGELO RESULTS ANNOUNCED Cash and in-kind prizes to finalists
SAN ANGELO— Angelo Tents and Events, represented by Laura Wall, was awarded first prize in Enterprise San Angelo, the 6th annual San Angelo Business Plan Competition. Donna Osborne, Concho Valley Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CVCED) executive director, made the announcement Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the regular board meeting of the San Angelo Development Corporation (SADC), which provides the cash awards for the competition.
Ms. Wall received a $15,000 cash grant, plus over $3,400 of in-kind prizes including: $2,000 accounting services from Oliver, Rainey & Wojtek; $500 free advertising from the San Angelo Standard-Times; $500 matched-purchase advertising from Four R Broadcasting; a $250 gift certificate from Bill Neil Specialty Advertising; and, a $150 services gift certificate plus 1,000 business cards from The Sign Shop.
Empowerment Concepts, LLC, represented by Dr. Nancy Hadley, was a finalist in the competition and was awarded in-kind prizes of a $500 website design and three months of web hosting from George Draper, and $125 worth of business cards from Q’s Printing. Haigood Design Company, represented by Heidi Haigood, was also a finalist and was awarded a $750 corporate ID design from Media Advantage. Each of the finalists provided an overview of their business plan and feedback on their competition experience.
Ms. Osborne also presented certificates of appreciation to the in-kind prize donors and the competition judges. Judges for Enterprise San Angelo were: Don Allison, retired entrepreneur; LeAnne Byrd, provost for Howard College; Dr. Mark Crouch, associate professor of computer science with Angelo State University; Pat Malloy, vice president of economic development for the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce; Alvin New, retired business executive, and, Albert Rodriquez, loan officer for the Concho Valley Council of Government.
Enterprise San Angelo provides an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to develop business plans that have the potential to build new ventures or expand existing small businesses. The CVCED received nine applications for the competition, and six were selected for advancement to Phase II. The semi-finalists were required to submit a draft business plan for evaluation by the judging panel. The judging panel provided feedback to all semi-finalists, and recommended the three finalists for Phase III of the competition.
Past winners of the competition include Angelo Kidney Connection, Hands of Grace, Gold Star Medical Business Services, and Gisselle’s Raw Furniture.
The CVCED operates a business incubator to help accelerate the development of start-up companies by providing targeted resources and services. CVCED also provides clients with access to affordable rental space, shared basic business services and equipment, technology support services, and access to other resources necessary for growth.
